“a game for people with beards”

I’m not sure what happened, one moment I was surrounded by friends and family and the next everything was on fire!  Dazed and confused I looked for an answer; that was when I discovered my fist was alive! The more surprising thing was that it started to talk to me. He explained that he was the Fist of Awesome and that the world as I knew it had changed. Someone, unbeknown to me, had changed the course of history …

“eat your heart out, David Attenborough!”

Since I was a young lad, I have always wondered to myself, ‘what do frogs eat?’. A simple question, tis true, I was a simple child. Well, thanks to Cut The Rope, I now know that they eat pieces of candy – eat your heart out David Attenborough! Of course, I am only joking. Please don’t go feeding frogs candy, not even the magical chocolate ones off Harry Potter.

Angry-Birds-Bad-Piggies-teaser-003

“So the sides have turned”

From a studio that are already a household name, Bad Piggies has shot up in popularity to contend with its older brother (Angry Birds). Set as almost a prequel to Angry Bird it is as vague as every with the story being told in very short, but no less clear comic strips. This time instead of stopping the pesky pigs stealing eggs, you must help the pigs collect pieces of their map to find the eggs in the first place.

Kingdom_Rush_frontiers“Its simple, don’t let them through!”

Having recently purchased Kingdom Rush: Frontiers, the second game in the Kingdom Rush line up. I felt that I had to take my hat off to the series and give it a quick summery for this weeks train games. As a massive fan of Tower Defence games, I discovered Kingdom Rush off the recommendations from many online reviews and a bit of digging around.

“Groove groove baby!”

Groove Racer is essentially a scalectrixs type racing game where your car is fixed to the track. The aim of the game is to get around the track in the fastest time in order to earn up to 3 trophies. Sound simple? Well let me tell you that you won’t find a simpler but more frustrating game than Groove Racer.

“Minions really like Bananas”

With Despicable Me 2 hitting cinemas to much expected praise, the natural compliment for any Disney film (the game) is now out on IOS and Android devices.

Minion Rush is classified as a runner and as many who follow our website will know, we are huge fans of the genre. Not only the gameplay, but for the way they fit into the handheld market, making the best of the suitability and ease of use.

“So many dumb ways to die”

So who remembers the amazing TV advert ‘Dumb ways to die’ that came out of Australia a few months back? Everyone I hope. It spread over the Internet like a virus and hopefully made us think about being more carful around trains. So when we heard that a game had been made with these odd suicidal creatures we had to dive right in and see if it could make as big of an impact as the video.

Well good news people, it does a damn fine job.

The sun may have come out at the weekend but we are getting back to the cold with this weeks Train Game, Big Win. Big Win is essentially a basic football manager style game for the great sport of Ice Hockey.

“Let’s get these zombies killed”

Zombie games perhaps do not come simpler than Minigore 2; move and shoot. Developed by Mountain Sheep we picked it up free from IGN as their game of the month, and for good reason.

“I am the Iron Man”

With the film out now, the Iron Man game has come along to soak up some of the hype, but also to mix things up a bit.

Iron Man 3 is classified as a runner and I half expected a cheap, poorly planned game that is more of an embarrassment than anything else. However, Iron Man does a lot of things right and many games being developed to tie in with films could take a lesson.

“The Ultimate Smack-down”

Not only this, but it would be free. Yes, check that again. FREE.

“What did fruit do to deserve this?”

With Fruit Ninja taking the number 1 spot on the free top charts at the moment on the App Store, a quick look at the game just felt right.

I have played Fruit Ninja across multiple platforms such as a windows phone, iPhone, iPad and Xbox and every time I have to start from scratch the opportunity does not fill me the annoyance or frustration but joy in the knowledge that I once again have a reason to play the game to death in order to get all of the blades and other unlockables.

“F**K SALAD!”

It’s Epic Meal Time!! As a lover of the YouTube phenomenon, the Epic Meal Time app game was seen as a must buy. The game is in a style reminiscent of Fruit Ninja, except instead of slicing the food, the objective is to chuck as much meat as possible at Harley, The Sauce Boss, whilst disposing of the veg. By making the notorious Sauce Boss eat the same type of food, you earn a multiple bonus, a quick and easy way to earn more dollar and score to go towards unlocking more and more goodies. Internet money earned through higher scores etc, can be spent on “Swag”, different types of Hats that each have different bonuses, “Food”, which have higher amounts of fat and calories, making bigger and bigger scores more realistic the more you play, and “F**k salad”, allowing you to have different backgrounds to play in, such as a Deadmau5 background.

“Join the mad Doc as he travels around the world”

Is everyone ready for yet another fantastic installment of Train Games? Well I know I am, and this week I am feeling particularly inventive bringing you the ingenuity of Doc and Dog.

Why so scientific? Well Doc and Dog is a game available on both IOS and Android that puts you in charge of the imagination of a mad scientist (well we here think he is mad) as he tried to fly around the world. His incentive for this endeavor is to rescue his trusty dog that was left behind as they both tried to escape from a desert island.

Icomania is a puzzle game riding on the current popularity of that genre. Much like the extremely popular 4 pictures one word, Icomania challenges you to guess the correct word related to the image (though there is only ever one image)

Having to think back to all of the iconic images that you can remember is a thoroughly enjoyable experience and the games initial difficulty does make you feel extremely knowledgeable, (even if it isn’t that hard).

“You have done well young ninja”

For this weeks Train Games I though I will bring you a runner. Anyone who has read my review of Temple Run 2 will know that I am a fan of running games and Temple Run has set a pretty high standard for running games on handheld devices. However there are still a few great ones demanding our attention.

It is becoming harder and harder for running games to stand out in the marketplace nowadays as many find themselves following the same formula, bringing very few new features to the table. While Mini Ninjas remains true to the existing model, providing character customisation, along with power ups and a special abilities that can be activated upon filling an energy bar, its unique graphic style and charming characters make this game a nice experience and one that will definitely ease the commute.

“You put the school next to the power plant! D’oh”

There are only a few games I play on my iPhone as much as the interactive social game, “The Simpsons Tapped Out!”.

The game, originally only on iOS products, has now been added to Android products, and it is well worth a purchase/download. The game relies on the player to build the town of Springfield in whatever way they so please, meaning that very rarely will two different players towns look the same (unless you steal a friends idea!).

“ZOMBIES!!!”

What better than a zombie game to review this week and considering this is a review about games to play on the train, this game just seemed to be perfect.  Zombies & Trains describes itself as a tower defense game with a difference, and it certainly is that. The main difference is the way you defeat your undead enemies. Instead of the normal array of turrets and guns, you are instead given a certain number of set train tracks with their metal carriage payload to stop the invading hoard.

Welcome one and all to the very first in a series of reviews on some of the games that are making the daily commute to work that much more easier.

The game that I have chosen for this first installment is Flick Kick Rugby by PIK POK. PIK POK is responsible for all of the games in the flick kick series, which also include such titles as Flick kick football and Flick Kick field goal.
